This award-winning charter school designs its own unique English and Spanish dual-immersion curriculum, provides professional development for its teachers, facilitates parental involvement, and offers a number of programs to ensure its students success. Join members of Orange County Advisors in Philanthropy for an insightful tour of this transformational academy.
Opened in 2001, the preschool through 8th grade charter school currently serves nearly 1,000 students, with a waiting list of 800. El Sol has a robust extended day program offering supplemental academic instruction for struggling students and cultural enrichment activities in the areas of music, dance, sports, and math. Additionally, El Sol has its own preschool, which is facilitated by retirees in the classroom, and the SOS-El Sol Wellness Center, which provides a wide range of on-site health, education and social services, as well as case management for the school’s families.
In addition to being the 2014 California Charter School Association Charter School of the Year, El Sol has received numerous awards for its work serving English Learners including the Bright Spot in Hispanic Education from the US Department of Education and White House Initiative on Hispanic Education.
